Due to a variety of factors, many people experience problems breathing through their nose. Often these issues can be addressed with some combination of rhinoplasty (surgery on the external structures of the nose) and septoplasty (surgery on the septum or internal wall between the nostrils). Dr. Dixon has years of experience in nasal surgery, including a highly competitive fellowship with the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He approaches every aesthetic rhinoplasty with function in mind and every functional rhinoplasty with aesthetics in mind, so his patients are always able to breathe easy.
There are a variety of reasons to get rhinoplasty, from obstructed nasal passages that restrict breathing to a desire for enhanced facial harmony. If you’re considering rhinoplasty, Dr. Dixon can work with you to talk through your goals, before developing a treatment plan to suit your lifestyle. He takes time with every rhinoplasty patient, answering your questions and addressing concerns. He’ll take you through a detailed consultation, including imaging of the inside and outside of your nose, explaining how he’ll achieve the most beneficial and realistic final result.
Common Questions about Rhinoplasty
Why is rhinoplasty so popular?
Rhinoplasty can help address a number of issues, from a deviated septum to asymmetry or other aesthetic issues. Every patient has a slightly different reason for undergoing rhinoplasty. Dr. Dixon can meet with you to discuss your goals, and help determine if rhinoplasty is right for you.
How long will I have to take off work?
Like any surgery, recovery from rhinoplasty is a little different for each patient. However, the majority of patients take about a week off from work and other major activities while recovering from the procedure. Some patients will take pain medication during the first day or two, though extreme discomfort is uncommon. Typically, patients transition from pain medication to over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen within a day or two. Due to swelling in the treated area, some congestion does occur during the recovery period, which can be annoying, but shouldn’t cause any much physical discomfort. Congestion will decrease as you heal and swelling goes down.
How long is the surgery?
Depending on the issues being addressed, rhinoplasty can be completed in approximately 45 minutes.
How long is the recovery time?
Patients can typically get back to work and other normal activities after a week or so, but complete healing from the procedure can take as much as 6 to 12 months.
